The Church will open six new missions in 2023

New assignments

Five missions in Africa and one in Europe will open in July

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will create six new missions in 2023. The new missions are listed below:

  • Ivory Coast Abidjan North Missiona division of the Ivory Coast East Abidjan Mission, with some areas currently within the West Abidjan Mission.
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo Mission Kanangaa division of the Mbuji-Mayi Mission of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
  • Aba Mission in Nigeriaa division of the Nigeria Owerri Mission with areas also in the Nigeria Benin City and Nigeria Enugu Missions.
  • Abuja Mission in Nigeriaa division of the Nigeria Lagos Mission.
  • Pretoria Mission in South Africaa division of the Botswana/Namibia and Johannesburg missions in South Africa, with areas of the Durban mission in South Africa also affected.
  • Romania Bucharest Missiona division of the Hungary/Romania Mission, which will become the Hungary Budapest Mission.

Mission presidents and companions for new missions will be announced in January 2023.

When the new missions officially open in July, there will be 416 Church missions worldwide.
