Temporary travel restrictions from Botswana to Brazil – Update

Ordinance n. 663, dated 12/20/2021, suspended, on a temporary basis, the authorization of foreigners traveling to Brazil from or in transit, in the last fourteen days before boarding, via Botswana, Africa South, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

It has also temporarily suspended international flights to Brazil from or in transit (connection or stopover) in the six countries mentioned above.

This prohibition does not apply to Brazilians and their foreign spouses, partners, parents, guardians and children, foreigners residing in Brazil who have a valid RNM, foreign diplomatic and consular agents accredited in Brazil. However, all are required to remain in quarantine for 14 days in the city of their final destination on Brazilian territory and submit the tests and form mentioned below.

According to the new ordinance, the entry into Brazil, by air, of travelers of international origin (except from the six aforementioned countries or who have stayed there during the last 14 days before boarding), Brazilian or foreign, is allowed, provided that they comply with the following requirements, to which Brazilians and resident foreigners are also required to:

I – presentation to the airline responsible for the flight, before boarding, of a document proving the performance of a screening test for the coronavirus infection SARS-CoV-2 (covid-19), with a negative result or undetectable, by the standard antigen test, carried out within 24 hours before boarding, or by RT-PCR laboratory, carried out within 72 hours before boarding, respecting the parameters indicated in the appendix I of the aforementioned ordinance and the following criteria:

a) in the event of a flight with connections or stopovers in which the traveler stays in a restricted area of ​​the airport, the deadlines referred to in I of the main section will be considered in relation to boarding on the first leg of the journey; and

b) in the event of a flight with connections or stopovers in which the traveler does not remain in a restricted area of ​​the airport, in which the traveler performs the migration, and which exceeds seventy-two hours since the completion of the RT-PCR Test or twenty-four hours of the antigen test, the traveler must present a document proving the performance of a new test, RT-PCR or antigen, with a negative or undetectable result for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (covid-19) at check-in for boarding to the Federative Republic of Brazil.

II – presentation to the airline responsible for the flight, before boarding, of proof, printed or electronic, of completing the traveler’s health declaration – DSV, within a maximum period of twenty-four hours before boarding at destination of the Federative Republic of Brazil, accepting with the sanitary measures that must be observed during the period he / she is in the country; and

III – presentation to the airline responsible for the flight, before boarding, of a proof of vaccination, printed or electronic, with vaccination agents approved by the National Health Surveillance Agency or by the World Health Organization or by the authorities of the country where the vaccinated traveler was located, whose last dose or single dose was applied at least fourteen days before the date of dispatch.

The presentation of proof of vaccination will be dispensed with for Brazilians and foreigners residing in Brazilian territory. However, when entering Brazilian territory, they must carry out a fourteen-day quarantine in the city of their final destination and at the address listed in the Declaration of Health of the Traveler – DSV.
