Deputy Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, speaking in parliament during the debate on the adoption of the 2022 state budget on Friday, lambasted SYRIZA and highlighted foreign policy achievements under the New Democracy government .
“Greece can be successful if it uses three fundamental elements: its human resources, its geographical position and its participation in the EU,” Varvitsiotis said.
âIt cannot be done with the logic that we will go to Europe and teach our partners what the truth is, which we hear monotonously from SYRIZA.
âThis is done by Greece using the different strategies of the member states, to take advantage of the correlations and always be part of the winners in any negotiation.
“That’s what he did and that’s what the Kyriakos Mitsotakis government will continue to do.”
Speaking about the government’s goals vis-Ã -vis Turkey and the EU, Varvitsiotis stressed that âfor the first time in our history, we have turned the issue of Greek-Turkish relations into a Euro-Turkish issue and we achieved this through constant intervention. to have a very harsh framework today, in which Turkey is described in clear and harsh words.
âThis leads our neighbor to an extremely strained relationship with the EU, which has consequences not only political but also economic.
âWe cannot leave Turkey out of control, and beyond the European context, without a reminder from the EU that the common values ââof democracy, rule of law, respect for human rights and respect for international treaties and international law are a necessary condition for any expansion of its participation in it, and of course for the enjoyment of any benefits from the financial relationship that it could maintain with it.
In addition, Varvitsiotis underlined that the Greek government to a large extent shapes the European reality and has succeeded with this approach in getting the most money per capita from the Recovery and Resilience Fund.
He underlined that this had allowed Greece to have in front of it development prospects that it had never had before.
Criticizing the official opposition, Varvitsiotis stressed that the policies of the previous SYRIZA government resulted in the biggest tax raid since the founding of the Greek state, as well as the complete isolation of Greece from everything that is happening in Europe.
“What we have seen,” he noted, “is that SYRIZA is returning to a logic of the extreme left, which has nothing to do with the path taken by the EU, and therefore it asks our country to be isolated again, as it was in the last five years â, declared the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
