SELECT wins Covid-19 award in London

Scotland’s largest construction trade association, SELECT, celebrates after winning a prestigious national award for its response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The campaigning trade body has won the award for best member support since Covid-19 at the Association Excellence Awards, which recognize the vital work carried out by organizations across the UK.

The judges commended the charity for its hard work during the lockdown and beyond, saying: “SELECT has gone the extra mile to provide the personal touch, practical support through one-on-one contact, financial assistance and online support. matters of mental health to members”.

After collecting the trophy, SELECT Managing Director Alan Wilson said: “This victory is a brilliant recognition of all the hard work done by everyone at SELECT both during the initial lockdown and in the months and years. years that followed.

“It was a coveted award with extremely strong competition and we were up against a number of very large trade bodies from across the UK so it was a great honor and a fantastic feeling to win.”

SELECT won the award at a special ceremony at the Kia Oval in London on Friday October 14, where Mr Wilson was joined by SELECT’s Director of Employment and Skills, Fiona Harper, Director of Memberships and communications, Iain Mason, and specification and customer relations manager, Yvonne Wilson. .

Ms. Harper, who is also Secretary of the SJIB, added: “We are all absolutely delighted to receive this award, which is a fitting tribute to the efforts of everyone at SELECT. It is also a testament to the contribution of our central Board of Directors, whose personal contact with members was rightly praised by the judges in their comments.

“Together, we have approached one of the most difficult times in our history and have emerged from it stronger and more determined to help our industry thrive.”

SELECT’s response to the pandemic included offering members a discounted membership and a host of practical support to help electrical contractors weather the current uncertainty.

It has also provided a wide range of employment, financial, health and safety and contract advice through its internal teams and through the establishment of the Construction Industry Coronavirus (CICV) Forum.

Members of SELECT’s Presidential Team also congratulated the association, with President Alistair Grant saying: “It is a fitting tribute to the excellent work carried out by each member of the SELECT staff, whose dedication and professionalism have been invaluable during a long period of upheaval.”

Vice President Mike Stark said, “Congratulations to everyone involved. SELECT has shown the true value of belonging to a professional association, with a wealth of advice and unwavering support.

Outgoing President Donald W Orr said, “This is absolutely brilliant and a great honor. Kudos to everyone at SELECT, who should be very proud.

Assistant Vice President Darren Crockett added, “This is a great achievement and recognizes the hard work and effort put in by SELECT staff to keep the organization running smoothly day in and day out during these different times. .

In addition to its Covid-19 award, the association was also nominated for Best Awareness Campaign or Advancement of a Cause (launched in 2022) for its high-profile Alarm Ambassadors initiative, sponsored by Aico.

It was also nominated for the association’s best newsletter, blog, online or physical publication, for its recently relaunched stakeholder magazine, cabletalk.
