High Commissioner Amarasekara appeals to Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation of Botswana

Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner for South Africa Sirisena Amarasekara recently visited the Republic of Botswana and had bilateral discussions with Botswana’s Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation, Dr Lemogang Kwape. High Commissioner Amarasekara conveyed greetings from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Professor GL Peiris, to Dr Lemogang Kwape.

During the discussion, High Commissioner Amarasekara assessed the friendly relations between the two countries while Minister Kwape expressed his appreciation for the contributions made by Sri Lankan professionals to the economy and the public administration system. from Botswana.

Highlighting the importance of collaborations between the Botswana diamond industry and the Sri Lankan gemstone and jewelry industry, the two sides agreed to explore the potential of these industries to generate more jobs and secure a greater economic growth. The industrial cooperation is particularly beneficial for both countries, as the high quality diamonds mined in Botswana can be made into high quality jewelry by skilled artisan jewelers in Sri Lanka.

In addition, Minister Kwape drew attention to the tea industries in Sri Lanka and Botswana, encouraging cooperation between them.
