Vacant position of Technical Advisor – Disaster Risk Reduction

Project description

Disasters are currently erasing many years of development achievements and reducing the development opportunities of countries. Despite the growing awareness of the complexity of risks, they are still not always sufficiently taken into account in the planning of development measures, whether in partner regions and countries or on the part of international donors. Current approaches often only deal with one threat at a time, usually a disaster, rather than considering several new global threats or multiple risks occurring simultaneously. Disaster risk management is still largely focused on responding to disasters rather than adopting a cross-cutting and preventive approach to minimize risk, and decision-makers often lack the skills and capacities to properly manage risks.

The Global Initiative on Disaster Risk Management (GIDRM) supports partner countries in their efforts against extreme events, to safeguard development and protect lives. In its third phase (2020-2023), the overall objective of the GIDRM is to strengthen the capacities and skills of certain decision-makers, regional organizations and initiatives in Southern Africa, Asia and Latin America in the application of development taking into account the risks (RID), taking into account factors of fragility specific to the context.
