Events planned for International Education Week 2021



The International Education Week 2021 (IEW) will be hosted from November 15-19, 2021 to celebrate and elevate the “OHIO Community Resilience in Global Engagement”.

Tuesday November 16: International Education Week (ISW) Global Engagement Gala

This year the IEW Gala takes place both in person and virtually. It will take place on Tuesday, November 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Ballroom of the Baker University Center. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Faculty, staff, alumni and community members from the region who have exemplified excellence in global engagement through teaching, learning, research, outreach and service will be celebrated.

Wednesday November 17: Global Perspectives on “Making Respect Visible”

Join a special conversation to discuss the ideas of respect and belonging from a global perspective.

Global Perspectives on “Making Respect Visible” will take place from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Baker Ballroom, with a virtual option available. This The hybrid event will foster dialogue and discussion to explore the question: “How can the OHIO community better understand, engage and support the international population?” Participants are invited to share their ideas and experiences and connect.

The event is organized in partnership with the Division of Diversity and Inclusion, International Student Union, International Student and Faculty Services and the Office of Global Affairs.

Login details for virtual participation are forthcoming. In-person participation will take place in the Baker Ballroom.

Thursday, November 18: Maximizing your OHIO experience: preparing for global opportunities

An informative virtual event at lunchtime, Maximize Your OHIO Experience: Prepare for Global Opportunities, takes place during International Education Week from noon to 1 p.m. Check out the resources available through the Ohio University and the Ohio University Alumni Association regarding national and global opportunities.

Panelists include:

  • Richard Quarshie, ’18 MA – Academic Advisor, Interdisciplinary Studies, Virginia Commonwealth University

Friday, November 19: Africa @ OHIO conference with Dr Lucky Wakantse-Odirile

As the world continues to fight the scourge of COVID-19, it is evident that the education sector is one of the hardest hit. In this Africa @ OHIO conference with Dr Lucky Wakantse Odirile, from noon to 1 p.m., Odirile shares how the University of Botswana has responded to the challenges of COVID-19.

Odirile is Director of the Career and Counseling Center at the University of Botswana, where she oversees three units, counseling, careers and placement / employability of graduates. In 2020, after COVID-19 was heralded as an international crisis, Odirile was chosen to lead the Psychosocial and Mental Health team at the University of Botswana, which responded to the country’s frontline mental health needs. . She returns to Ohio University as Robert and Rene Visiting Professor after her distinctions in 2015 and 2020 as an outstanding scholar who has had a significant impact and contribution in the field of education. She also received the George E Hill as well as the Fashion Designer Awards.
