Buni to meet with Gombe stakeholders on party structure

Coming from Wednesday’s reconciliation meeting at Senator Abdullahi Adamu’s residence in Abuja, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Interim Committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State is expected to lead the state governor de Gombe, Inuwa Yahaya and the top party to meet with Senator Danjuma Goje on the reorganization of the party structure in Gombe State this week (next week).

This was part of the resolutions reached at the Abuja meeting where Governor Buni and other party leaders reconciled with Governor Yahaya and Senator Goje.

Yahaya and Goje have been at daggers drawn over control of the party structure in the state. The crisis following the ruling party congresses in Gombe State has escalated following the attack on Senator Goje’s convoy in Gombe last year.

To reconcile the two politicians, Buni last Wednesday drove senior party officials to Senator Abdullahi Adamu’s residence in Abuja, where Governor Yahaya and Senator Goje reconciled.

At the meeting attended by former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, Senators and Former Governors of Borno State, Senator Kashim Shettima and Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, among others, it was decided that the peace pact should be implemented in two folds.

A source at the meeting told reporters that Governor Yahaya and Senator Goje have been urged to sheath their swords and let peace reign.

“The party leaders called on both Governor Yahaya and Senator Goje to allow peace to reign in accordance with Islamic teachings,” he said, pleading for anonymity.

He said the second step of the peace pact was that the party congress held in Gombe state, where Goje’s allies have been sidelined, should be realigned to accommodate the former governor’s supporters.

“The governor and the senator accepted this. This was the second phase of the results of the peace meeting, ”he added.

Another source at the meeting said it was decided that Governor Buni should lead Governor of Gombe, his Borno State counterparts, Babagana Zulum, his predecessor, Kashim Shettima, to meet with Senator Goje in his Abuja residence this week.

“It is expected that the reorganization of the party structure in Gombe will take place during the meeting at Goje’s residence in Abuja,” said the source, a lawmaker.
