Agriculture department digitizes youth loan program


The Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Credit Policy Council (DA-ACPC) is digitizing the implementation of the Kapital Access for Young Agriprenuers (KAYA) loan program using online tools to facilitate the application and referral of its target beneficiaries.

The KAYA loan program offers zero-interest loans of up to 500,000 pesos repayable over five years for young agro-entrepreneurs, especially those between the ages of 18 and 30. They must be graduates of formal or non-formal education including, but not limited to, graduates of higher education institutions related to agriculture and fisheries, DA accredited programs, programs from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, agricultural schools, and secondary schools with courses related to agriculture and fishing.

The program, which was launched by Agriculture Secretary Willam Dar earlier this year, aims to inspire and empower young people to venture into farming as start-up business owners, not only offering loans but also workshops and mentoring sessions, which are

The KAYA Program Management Office of DA-ACPC organized the first orientation of the KAYA Online Loan Program for the First Group of Potential Young Agripreneurs or “Yaggies” in Bukidnon Province in May through a conference Web. Since then, the agency has facilitated online orientations and sessions on the preparation of business plans and business model outline workshops for applicants from regions 8, 9, 10, 12 and the Autonomous Region of Bangsamoro in Muslim Mindanao.

Online platforms were used for submission of requirements, including applicants’ simple business plan, and mentoring sessions were held through focus groups with KAYA team members as mentors / coaches of the participating Yaggies. This first group of Yaggies, aged 21 to 30, expressed their enthusiasm to realize their business ideas through the financial and technical assistance of the program.
